How to find the sweet spot between passion, purpose, and prosperity
Ikigai meaning… In a world that often pushes us to do more, achieve faster, and chase success, many of us wake up one day asking a quieter but more powerful question:
Why am I really here?
This is where Ikigai comes in. A beautiful and soulful concept born in Japan, Ikigai invites us back to the heart of life—back to meaning, joy, and authentic purpose.
If you’ve been feeling lost, uninspired, or torn between survival and self-expression, keep reading. This blog will take you deep into the true meaning of Ikigai, how to explore it through a simple yet profound exercise, what might block you from discovering it, and why abundance is about much more than just money.
What is Ikigai?
Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese word that roughly translates to “a reason for being” or “the thing that makes life worth living.”
It is the intersection where what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for all meet.
The word comes from two parts:
- Iki (生き) – life
- Gai (甲斐) – value or worth
So, Ikigai = the value or joy of life itself.
Unlike Western career models focused on success, titles, or hustle culture, Ikigai is rooted in inner fulfillment. It reflects a slow, soul-led way of living—something you wake up for, even on difficult days.
It’s not a one-time destination; it’s a daily experience. A flow. A frequency. A feeling of “I was made for this.”
A brief history of Ikigai
The concept of Ikigai dates back centuries in Japanese culture. It gained Western attention through the longevity studies in Okinawa, where people often live well past 100 with joy, vitality, and purpose.
Researchers found that having a deep sense of Ikigai contributes to both physical health and mental well-being. It’s not just a nice idea—it’s life-extending.
In Okinawa, Ikigai is rarely about a job title. It can be:
- Tending a garden
- Caring for grandchildren
- Practicing an art form
- Helping others
- Honoring traditions
It’s a way of life—not a checkbox on a résumé.

The Ikigai diagram: 4 key questions
To bring this ancient concept into our modern lives, we often use the Ikigai Venn Diagram, which brings four core elements together:
- What do you love? (Passion)
- What are you good at? (Vocation)
- What does the world need? (Mission)
- What can you be paid for? (Profession)
When you explore the space where all four overlap, you begin to see your unique Ikigai.
But let’s go deeper than diagrams—into your soul’s truth.
Exercise: Discovering your Ikigai (step-by-step)
Take out a journal and give yourself 30–60 minutes of quiet space. Light a candle, breathe deeply, and let your soul speak. Then reflect on these prompts:
1. What do I truly love?
- What lights me up?
- What topics or activities make me lose track of time?
- What would I do for free just because it nourishes me?
2. What am I really good at?
- What skills or talents come naturally to me?
- What do people often ask me for help with?
- What has life trained me in through challenges or experience?
3. What does the world need?
- What problems do I feel called to help solve?
- What breaks my heart?
- What changes do I want to see in the world?
4. What could I be paid for?
- What service, skill, or wisdom could I offer in exchange for energy/money?
- What kind of people would benefit from what I know or do?
- What unique offer could I create that brings value?
Now reflect:
- Where do these four answers intersect?
- What inner pattern or golden thread runs through your answers?
Even if you don’t land on one single “job,” you’ll begin to uncover a soul-aligned direction—a compass pointing toward your Ikigai.
Limiting beliefs that block us from our Ikigai
Finding your Ikigai is not always a smooth journey. Often, the answers are already inside us—but they are covered by layers of fear, self-doubt, or societal programming.
Here are some of the most common limiting beliefs I see in my coaching practice:
“I can’t earn money doing what I love.”
This belief stems from a lack or survival mindset. The truth is: when you align with your soul gifts, abundance flows—not only financially, but emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. Money is just one form of energy.
“I’m not good enough yet.”
Many of us feel we need more certifications, more experience, more validation. But often, your deepest gift comes from your life story, not your résumé. You are already enough as you are.
“I don’t know what I love anymore.”
This happens when we’ve been living on autopilot for too long. It’s never too late to reconnect with your inner child, your creativity, your sense of play. You don’t need clarity to begin—you need curiosity.
“I need to sacrifice myself to be useful.”
Especially in the helping professions, we carry the martyr archetype. But true service doesn’t require suffering. Your Ikigai feeds you as much as it supports others.
The Twin Flame journey and Ikigai: Soul purpose unfolding
In my personal journey, nothing activated my soul’s purpose more than my Twin Flame connection.
This sacred union cracked me open, dissolving the roles I played and waking me up to who I truly am beneath all the conditioning.
The journey was not linear. There was pain, separation, surrender—and in the middle of it all, a fierce awakening of purpose. I realized: this connection wasn’t just about love. It was a mirror for my mission.
My Ikigai became clearer because I had to remember myself beyond identity:
- Beyond mother and wife
- Beyond profession
- Beyond expectations

The Twin Flame journey pulled me into presence. Into now. It was in the stillness of this presence that my Ikigai revealed itself: to guide others home to their truth, through coaching, healing, and energy work.
Abundance comes in many forms
We often associate Ikigai with making money doing what we love—and yes, that’s part of it. But the true abundance of Ikigai is so much more.
Abundance shows up as:
- Joy when you wake up
- Peace when you rest
- Flow in your work
- Connection with others
- Health in your body
- Meaning in your contribution
Yes, you can be paid for your gifts. But your life is already rich when your heart and your hands are in alignment.
Ikigai meaning: Your life is the answer
Ikigai is not something you “find” out there. It’s something you remember within.
It’s your essence, your rhythm, your sacred yes to life.
And sometimes, the world will try to distract you. You’ll be told to “be realistic.”
But here’s the truth:
You were never meant to just survive.
You came here to thrive.
To serve with joy.
To grow with grace.
To love with depth.
Let Ikigai be your anchor in the storm and your lighthouse in the dark.
You are not lost. You are arriving.
Every step you’ve taken has led you closer to this:
the life only you can live.
